Classix Universe

Classix is a cultural brand that redefines the experience of classical music through innovation, interdisciplinarity, and accessibility, adapting it to the contemporary audience. It encourages dialogue, repositions classical music from the world of elites, and brings it closer to the curious, the passionate, and the explorers, through the use of new technologies and new media arts.

Classix Mission

The mission of Classix is to cultivate a new generation of audiences with broad cultural and intellectual interests, contributing to the revitalization of the artistic landscape of Eastern Europe.
Classix promotes cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue in a spirit of artistic diplomacy, bringing together national and European traditions with new trends and forms of contemporary expression.
By promoting excellence and collaboration between established and emerging artists, Classix aims to transform classical music into a universal language of connection and knowledge.

Classix Purpose

Classix, a contemporary classical adventure, aims to orchestrate and develop international cultural projects dedicated to classical music and its interdisciplinary forms.

Through a syncretic collaboration between artists, movements, and creative fields, Classix promotes a contemporary vision of art that unites tradition with innovation and rediscovers the relevance of classical music in the present.

The initiatives of Classix seek to offer audiences access to unique cultural experiences that combine musical performance with visual arts, literature, technology, and new media, presented in diverse formats and unconventional spaces.

At the same time, the derivative projects – Classix-in-Art, Classix-in-Focus, Classix Concerts, and Classix Lab – strengthen an international network of artistic and educational collaboration, designed to support the development of young creators, foster cultural mobility, and reaffirm classical music as a universal language of connection, excellence, and innovation.

Classix Experience

Classix is more than a festival — it is a universe of cultural engagement. The brand encompasses several essential pillars:

Classix Festival

An international, independent festival held annually in Iași, Classix Festival redefines the concert experience through interdisciplinarity and adapts it to the contemporary audience.
The event encourages cultural dialogue, repositions classical music beyond the realm of elites, and brings it closer to the curious, the passionate, and the explorers, through new technologies and new media arts.

The festival promotes a forward-looking artistic vision, where the tradition of classical music meets innovative forms of expression — from multimedia projections and videomapping to syncretic performances and interdisciplinary collaborations.
Under its defining slogan, “a contemporary classic affair”, Classix transforms each edition into a sonic and visual journey that invites the public to (re)discover the emotional power and contemporary relevance of classical music.

The festival’s goal is to stimulate a new generation of audiences expanding their cultural and intellectual horizons while contributing to the artistic revitalization of Iași, the North-East region, and Romania as a whole.
Its themes reflect current societal concerns, exploring the connection between art, humanity, and progress, as well as between national and European traditions — in an effort that promotes cultural diversity and local heritage on an international scale.

The concert repertoire combines well-known works with rare or rediscovered pieces, offering audiences the opportunity to experience compositions and artists not typically featured in the programs of traditional Romanian philharmonics.
The festival’s uniqueness lies in its ability to open the arts to a broad public through a modern, accessible, and visionary approach that turns the musical experience into a dialogue between generations, cultures, and artistic forms.

Since its debut in February 2020, the festival has grown steadily despite the pandemic context, becoming one of the most important independent classical music events in Romania.
Across its six editions, Classix has brought together over 350 international artists from 23 countries — including Poland, Romania, Norway, South Korea, Austria, Germany, France, the United States, the Faroe Islands, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Moldova, Denmark, Switzerland, Israel, Finland, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Iran, Bulgaria, Serbia, and Russia.

It has hosted 49 concerts, 23 panels, 4 lectures, 6 exhibitions and openings, 2 book launches, 10 short film screenings, 193 masterclass sessions, and 18 artist scholarships totaling €18,000.
The festival has attracted over 30,000 in-person attendees and more than 365,000 online viewers, confirming its role as a catalyst for cultural innovation and a promoter of international dialogue.

Beyond its concert dimension, the festival includes an extensive series of complementary projects and activities.

Classix-in-Art

A series dedicated to the training and support of emerging artists through masterclasses, creative grants, and educational activities in music, visual, and performing arts.
Since its launch, the program has offered 18 scholarships worth €18,000 and facilitated 218 masterclass sessions and 2 workshops led by internationally renowned artists and professors.

Classix-in-Art creates authentic learning and professional development contexts for young musicians and creators, offering opportunities for training, collaboration, and exposure on the festival’s stages.
By involving international experts and distinguished mentors, the program helps shape a new generation of artists who express themselves freely, interdisciplinarily, and in tune with global trends.

Classix-in-Focus

A space for dialogue and interdisciplinary networking that connects artists, cultural professionals, and figures from academic and creative fields.
Through collaborations with international guests and experts in music, literature, visual arts, cultural management, and artistic education, the program provides rare opportunities in the Romanian cultural landscape — fostering collaboration and exchange of ideas across generations and cultures.

The Classix-in-Focus series includes 26 panels, lectures, exhibitions, openings, film screenings, book launches, and other cultural interventions, becoming a vital component of the Classix DNA and a forum for contemporary artistic reflection.

Classix Concerts

The Classix Concerts series brings together independent performances held throughout the year, continuing the festival’s mission beyond its seasonal boundaries.
To date, 8 concerts have been organized in Iași and Bucharest, each featuring a carefully curated program that highlights musical excellence and the diversity of artistic expression.

Through these events, Classix brings its distinctive spirit closer to a wider audience, presenting both established and emerging artists from Romania and abroad in various contexts — from concert halls to unconventional spaces, from acoustic formats to multimedia and immersive experiences.
The series keeps the Classix energy alive year-round, strengthening a dynamic cultural network that connects Romanian cities with the international scene of contemporary classical music.

Classix Lab

A summer initiative dedicated to young people passionate about music and interdisciplinary creation, offering an inspirational environment for collaboration between emerging and established artists.
Held in Iași, Suceava, and Vatra Dornei, Classix Lab combines workshops, masterclasses, and concerts, promoting education through art and creative experimentation.

The 2024 edition brought together 12 international guest artists, 30 young participants, and an audience of over 2,000 spectators, under the guidance of experts in performance, composition, production, and arts management.
Throughout the 5 concerts and 3 panels, the project offered 25 masterclass sessions and a blockflöte workshop, attended by 40 music enthusiasts.
Once again, the edition showcased Classix Lab’s ability to combine artistic training, collaborative creation, and concert experience within an inspiring, accessible, and interdisciplinary framework.

In essence, Classix aims to democratize access to classical music, transforming it into a living, current, and relevant part of today’s cultural conversation — a true contemporary classical affair.

Through its international scope, network of engaged experts, and commitment to education, Classix emerges as a model of an integrated cultural platform where artistic excellence, innovation, and global dialogue converge into a single experience — that of rediscovering classical music in contemporaneity.
